We are looking for a tuneful and compassionate Therapeutic Musician to provide live acoustic music, one-on-one, for therapeutic purposes. The work is focused on the patient with the aim of bringing in-the-moment comfort to the patient’s whole being—emotional, spiritual, mental, and physiological—simply by having the patient be in the presence of the music.
Therapeutic Music is part of our Integrative Services Program at Hospice of the Northwest. Our Integrative team are independent, contracted employees which gives you maximum schedule flexibility. We do ask you to provide at least two days (16 hours) of work per week.
Duties & Responsibilities
- As part of an interdisciplinary team you will provide non-prescriptive and passive music with hospice patients in their own homes (including care facilities).
- Document every visit in the electronic medical record.
- Follow HIPAA and hospice policies, maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
- Communicate with team members to assure optimal patient care.
- Attend meetings as assigned (via Zoom and in person).
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrates musical proficiency on instrument(s) using the inherent healing elements of music and sound to enhance the environment for hospice patients.
- Follows established safety and infection control policies and procedures and participates in all required in-service training.
- Certified by an NSBTM-accredited certification program or equivalent.
- Provides own instrument(s).
- Licensed driver with automobile that is insured in accordance with organization requirements and is in good working order, to travel to assigned patients in their place of residence.
- Maintain professional liability insurance.
- Able to work without supervision.
- Able to accept direction from supervisor and clinical staff.
- Knows appropriate types of music for specific patient conditions.

Ergonomic Considerations
The Therapeutic Musician is able to transport, carry, move, and set up their own instrument and accessory equipment quickly and without assistance. Music sessions are provided with patients while they are in their recliner, chair or bed. It requires the musician to be able to adjust to a variety of environmental challenges in order to be successful.
Compensation
$50-$55 per hour. Mileage is paid at current IRS Standard Mileage Rate.
