In addition to being Medicare certified and CHAP accredited, one of the things that makes Hospice of the Northwest a truly special hospice is the generous support we get from our community through the Hospice of the Northwest Foundation.
The Hospice of the Northwest Foundation provides the funds to pay for all integrative therapies, special experiences, medical equipment, and more to further improve the quality of life of hospice patients.
Through the Foundation, patients are able to experience symptom relief and comfort without additional medication through integrative therapies like massage therapy, aromatherapy, pet therapy, music therapy, energy work, and more. These integrative therapies are provided by specially trained professionals in the homes of patients and paid for completely by the Foundation, so Hospice of the Northwest patients are able to utilize them at no additional cost to themselves or their family.
Not only do these integrative therapies provide relief to patients, but also to their loved ones who see them experience additional comfort during very difficult times.
Kiley is a pediatric hospice patient who receives massage therapy and aromatherapy to relieve some of the pain and discomfort caused by muscle spasms as a result of her degenerative illness.
“It warms my heart to know she is comfortable,” said Krystal, Kiley’s mother. “[Massage therapy] added a lot more comfort for Kiley because we don’t get out much, so for somebody to come into our home and make her comfortable means a lot.”
In addition to integrative therapies, the Foundation can also provide life-affirming experiences as a patient’s life comes to an end. Through generous donations and community connections, the Foundation helps keep the focus on what could improve patient quality of life by providing meaningful experiences…without having to worry about the “bottom line” or drawing resources away from basic needs.

While Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans benefits, and most private insurance companies cover care provided by Hospice of the Northwest because it is Medicare-certified hospice, the Foundation has also stepped up to purchase additional equipment so staff can take even better care of patients. This was the case when Foundation donors supplied a third bladder scanner and these sound amplifiers to help clinicians and patients communicate better.
Hospice of the Northwest Foundation supports those experiencing life-limiting illness by providing services that reduce pain and offer comfort. These services are only possible at no cost to patients and their families because of the generous donations from our community.
